Ways to Earn Extra MoneySome ideas on how to boost up your financesAll good plans can sometimes slip up and if you've chosen a 'new career' or business when you downshift and find that things aren't quite going as well as you hoped, it's a good idea to have a few things up your sleeve. Alternatively of course, you can make your new career in many things together, then pick and choose as you go along. It's a good idea to have a few reserve plans and in this section are a few things which I've done to supplement my other work. The danger is to take too much on, but without letting people down. You can have spells of working endlessly, then sit in the sofa twiddling your thumbs all day. Sure, the purpose of downshifting is to take life slower and have more time for you, your family and enjoying life, but the bills still have to be paid. Striking the balance is the art, along with self motivation and management skills. People will get to know of you and it could be that you have a queue of prospective customers outside your back door. Taking too much on will defeat the object of your lifestyle change. This is why I think, if you haven't downshifted to 'job specific', to have a part-time job as your main earner. At least you can be sure of getting paid at the end of the week and you know how much it's going to be, even if it's earning less pro rata than your other self employment jobs. If you have a part-time job, try and get one where you work whole days, like two days a week 9 - 5. That gives you 16 hours pay and the rest of the week off to do your own thing. It's not easy to find those jobs as most employees want you to work 16 hours spread over anti-social hours to cover for their lunch breaks and busier periods, which is fair enough, they have a business to run as well. But working say two hours a day, five days a week from 12noon - 2pm is going to destroy your chances of other work. The morning is wasted by hanging around ready to go and afterwards, you don't feel up to much working. The main thing is to have options, the jobs you like doing. By having a variety of these you'll avoid getting the jobs that quite simply, no one else wants to do |
Treat money earnt as for individual items. For example - two hours pay equals half a tank of petrol
